Cognitive Behaviour Therapy

Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is a type of treatment to address different kinds of mental health issues. It is often referred to as the Gold Standard of psychological treatments.

Here’s  an example of the types of conditions it is known to help:

  •  *Anxiety disorders: generalised anxiety disorder, panic disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder and social anxiety disorder
  •
  •  * Mood disorders: depression and bipolar disorder
  •
  • * Bulimia nervosa and other eating difficulties
  •
  • * Other issues: anger, stress, and problem gambling

CBT involves psycho-education towards what is the possible cause/s related to a stressful situation or condition. Together we will work at identifying the link between your thoughts, feelings, and actions, and how each may affect your perception and wellbeing.

The goal is to enable you to become more aware of any negative thoughts that you may be having, then to question how true and helpful those negative thoughts are.

Ultimately, you can learn how to develop new skills to challenge those thoughts to change your behaviour.

A CBT program usually includes a one-hour session weekly for five and 20 weeks.

Research has revealed that most of our ‘growing’ happens in the time between visits, therefore it is normal practice for you to be given tasks to do at home. This tasks are not difficult and might include keeping a record of certain thoughts and feelings and/or completing activity sheets.

Note: I will help you through this process.
